Curriculum

Plano Christian Academy teaches Christian Classical philosophy. Students are exposed to Latin, Logic, and Rhetoric Classes (age appropriately).  In addition, they will read broadly from the Classics in Western Literature. Students are taught how to think and articulate their thoughts in an eloquent and persuasive manner. The integration of curricula across the disciplines allows students to make connections between subjects and draw upon various disciplines when applying learned information. Math and Science will remain a priority in order to prepare students to succeed in our advanced world. Throughout all of our studies, Christ and the Bible will remain at the center of our curriculum.

Next year’s 12th-grade students will finish out their coursework in the Texas Tech Program in which they have begun (read more below).

12th Grade Students
Complete Texas Tech Curriculum

Plano Christian Academy students in 12th grade will be enrolled in the Texas Tech University Independent School District (TTUISD).  Therefore, they will use mostly Texas Tech Curriculum.  These courses are TEA-Accredited, and an official Texas Tech transcript is available to all students enrolled in that  program.  The teachers on our staff enhance the curriculum by adding creativity, hands-on activities, classroom discussions, and a Christian backdrop to each of their classes.

Although the Texas Tech curriculum can be used in self-study programs, we are inserting the curriculum into a somewhat traditional classroom format.  Students are placed together throughout the year, with enriching activities given within the classes. Classes will always remain small (10:1 ratio).

To give you a feel for Texas Tech’s world-renown program, here are some excerpts from the TTU website regarding their extended studies program:

Extended Studies operates Texas Tech University Independent School District (TTUISD), a TEA-accredited K-12 school that operates entirely at a distance.  Texas Tech University High School was established as a result of a cooperative effort among Texas Tech University, the Texas Legislature, and the TEA. ITTUISD added a Middle School and Elementary School to complete the district’s offerings. The initial goal of TTUISD was to provide an alternative to traditional daytime classes. However, as the curriculum has expanded, it can now be used for:

  • courses for alternative or charter schools
  • summer school classes
  • dual-credit courses for academically advanced or gifted students
  • supplemental remedial reading curriculum
  • and supplemental course offerings for other ISDs.

There is no such thing as a “typical” TTUISD student. Students range from home-schooled children to professional athletes and musicians, and from young children to adults, both nationwide and abroad. TTUISD combines the academic rigor of an award-winning curriculum designed to exceed Texas standards with the flexibility of distance learning, all at an affordable price. Students receive objective and constructive evaluations by experienced classroom teachers who help each student identify strengths and areas that need further improvement. All TTUISD students receive official transcripts that are readily accepted by public and private schools in all states.

Through our curriculum, your child will learn to be a complex thinker, self-directed learner, and community contributor. Your child will be challenged to focus on global concerns through interrelated disciplines and hands-on learning.
